Bed Frame Sizes Singapore: Mattress vs Actual Frame Dimensions

A Singapore bed-frame dimension guide comparing mattress openings, external footprints, local and IKEA formats, storage clearance and delivery measurements.

By Lullaflex EditorialPublished Updated
In short
  • A bed frame is larger than the mattress, and there is no universal external size for each mattress label.
  • Current product examples show frames adding 6-13 cm of width and 6-22 cm of length around their stated mattress spaces.
  • Common local mattress dimensions differ from IKEA Singapore formats, especially for super single and mattress length.
  • Use external frame dimensions, storage operating clearance and package measurements when planning the room.

Quick answer: how big is a bed frame in Singapore?

A bed frame is larger than the mattress it holds. The exact difference depends on the side rails, headboard, footboard, upholstery and storage design, so there is no universal queen, king or single frame footprint.

Start with the mattress opening, then check the frame's full external width and length. In current Singapore product examples checked on 1 September 2026, an IKEA single frame for a 90 x 200 cm mattress measures 96 x 206 cm. Two Castlery queen frames have mattress spaces around 153 x 191-195 cm but external footprints of 164 x 210 cm and 166 x 213 cm.

That means the frame can add roughly 6 cm around a slim single design or more than 20 cm to the length of a deeper queen design. Use the product's external dimensions, not the size label, when planning the room.

Common Singapore mattress sizes

The measurements below describe the mattress, not the complete frame.

Mattress labelCommon local mattress sizeBefore buying a frame
Single91 x 190 cmConfirm the internal opening and whether the frame is made for a local or imported mattress.
Super single107 x 190 cmDo not assume it matches IKEA's wider 120 x 200 cm format.
Queen152 x 190 cmCheck the full headboard and side-rail footprint.
King183 x 190 cmConfirm room clearance and delivery access before ordering.

These are common local mattress dimensions published by Sealy Singapore. Individual manufacturers may use small tolerances or offer imported and custom sizes, so the final product specification still controls.

For a direct mattress comparison, use the single bed size guide, super single dimensions guide, queen mattress guide or king mattress guide.

Mattress size and bed-frame size are not the same

The mattress size tells you the sleeping surface. A frame needs a structure around that surface.

The extra footprint can come from:

  • side rails around the mattress;
  • an upholstered border;
  • a thick headboard or wingback sides;
  • a footboard;
  • storage drawers;
  • an ottoman or gas-lift mechanism;
  • shelves, charging ledges or attached bedside tables.

A seller may describe both a 164 cm-wide frame and a 166 cm-wide frame as queen because both are designed around a queen mattress. Those 2 cm can matter when the bed sits between a wall and wardrobe.

Do not add a guessed allowance to the mattress and assume it will be accurate. Ask for the external dimensions of the exact model and size.

Real bed-frame dimension examples in Singapore

The following sample shows why the model matters as much as the mattress label. These are product specifications published by the retailers and checked on 1 September 2026.

Bed-frame exampleMattress spaceExternal frame sizeAdded footprint
IKEA VIHALS single90 x 200 cm96 x 206 cm6 cm wider and 6 cm longer
Castlery Adams queen153 x 193-195 cm164 x 210 cm11 cm wider and 15-17 cm longer
Castlery Miles queen153 x 191 cm166 x 213 cm13 cm wider and 22 cm longer

This is a small illustrative sample, not a market-wide average. A minimalist platform can stay relatively close to the mattress. A deep upholstered headboard, storage frame or bed with attached furniture may take substantially more space.

The useful question is not "How big is a queen frame?" It is "What are the external dimensions of this queen frame?"

Single bed-frame size

A common local single mattress is 91 x 190 cm. Imported frames may use a 90 x 200 cm mattress instead.

For example, the IKEA VIHALS frame is listed for a 90 x 200 cm mattress and measures 96 x 206 cm externally. The frame is only 6 cm wider and longer than its mattress space, but its 200 cm mattress format is 10 cm longer than a common 190 cm local single.

Check three things before combining a local single mattress with an imported single frame:

  1. The internal mattress opening.
  2. Whether the frame expects a 190 cm or 200 cm mattress.
  3. Whether a gap will remain around the mattress.

A small width difference may be manageable only when the manufacturer confirms compatibility. A 10 cm length mismatch is harder to ignore because it can leave a visible gap or prevent the mattress from fitting.

Super-single bed-frame size

The common local super-single mattress is 107 x 190 cm. IKEA Singapore commonly lists super-single bed systems around 120 x 200 cm.

Those formats are not interchangeable:

  • the IKEA format is about 13 cm wider;
  • the IKEA format is 10 cm longer;
  • fitted sheets and mattress protectors may also differ;
  • a local 107 x 190 cm mattress can leave a large gap in a 120 x 200 cm frame.

Buy by centimetres, not by the words "super single". The label can refer to different physical products depending on the retailer.

Queen bed-frame size

A common local queen mattress is 152 x 190 cm, but queen frames can vary considerably.

The sampled Castlery Adams queen has a 153 x 193-195 cm mattress space and a 164 x 210 cm external frame. The Miles queen has a 153 x 191 cm mattress space and a 166 x 213 cm external frame.

Both are queen frames, yet the Miles sample uses another 2 cm of width and 3 cm of length. Against the common local queen mattress measurement, the complete frames are roughly 12-14 cm wider and 20-23 cm longer.

This does not make either design better. The Adams may suit one layout while the Miles suits another. It means the room must be planned around the selected frame, not an assumed queen rectangle.

King bed-frame size

A common local king mattress is 183 x 190 cm. Even a relatively slim frame will be larger, while a wingback or storage model can push further into the room.

King frames also create delivery questions that are easy to miss online:

  • Can the headboard enter the lift?
  • Can the longest package turn through the corridor?
  • Can it pass the bedroom doorway?
  • Is there enough assembly space?
  • Can storage drawers or a gas-lift platform open after installation?

Ask for both assembled and packaged dimensions. A frame that fits the bedroom after assembly may still be difficult to deliver.

Local Singapore sizes versus IKEA sizes

Singapore retailers do not all use the same length and width conventions.

LabelCommon local mattressIKEA Singapore format shown in its bed guide
Single91 x 190 cm90 x 200 cm
Super single107 x 190 cm120 x 200 cm
Queen152 x 190 cm150 x 200 cm
King183 x 190 cm180 x 200 cm

The differences are large enough to affect mattress fit, bedding and room layout. This is especially important when buying a mattress and frame from different retailers.

Before mixing brands, send the mattress dimensions to the frame seller and ask for written compatibility confirmation. Do not rely on a shared size name.

How frame style changes the footprint

Slim platform or divan

A simple platform or divan can stay closer to the mattress dimensions. This is useful when floor space is tight, but check whether the base has protruding feet or a separate headboard.

Upholstered frame

Padding and fabric can add width around the mattress. Wingback headboards take more wall space and may affect bedside-table placement.

Storage bed

The closed footprint may look manageable while the operating clearance is not. Side drawers need space to extend. A gas-lift base needs usable space above the mattress and enough room to stand while opening it.

Frame with shelves or attached tables

Integrated furniture can simplify the room, but it becomes part of the bed's total width. Measure the entire unit rather than adding the bed and bedside-table widths separately from memory.

How to measure before ordering

Measure the room in this order:

  1. Record the clear wall-to-wall width and length.
  2. Mark the exact external bed-frame footprint on the floor.
  3. Include the headboard depth, not only the side rails.
  4. Open the bedroom door fully.
  5. Open wardrobe doors and drawers.
  6. Pull out any planned storage-bed drawers.
  7. Place the desk chair in its normal used position.
  8. Check the walking route from the door to the wardrobe and window.
  9. Confirm where power points and switches will sit behind the headboard.
  10. Check lift, corridor, stair and doorway access using the package dimensions.

Painter's tape is enough for a quick floor test. For a more complete layout, use the Lullaflex bedroom planner and enter the frame's external dimensions rather than the mattress dimensions.

What to ask the retailer

Ask for these specifications before paying:

  • internal mattress-space width and length;
  • assembled external width, length and height;
  • headboard depth;
  • mattress inset or recess depth;
  • recommended mattress thickness;
  • height from the floor to the slats or platform;
  • drawer-extension clearance;
  • packaged dimensions and number of boxes;
  • base and centre-support requirements;
  • whether the frame follows local or imported mattress sizing.

Screenshots can help if a product page changes later. Keep the written specification with the order confirmation.

Frequently asked questions

How much bigger is a bed frame than its mattress?

There is no fixed allowance. In the examples reviewed for this guide, a slim IKEA single frame added 6 cm to both width and length, while two upholstered or wooden Castlery queen frames added 11-13 cm of width and 15-22 cm of length around their stated mattress spaces.

What is the standard queen bed-frame size in Singapore?

There is no single external queen-frame size. A common local queen mattress is 152 x 190 cm, but the frame becomes larger according to its rails, headboard, footboard, upholstery and storage design.

Can a 152 x 190 cm mattress fit an IKEA queen frame?

Do not assume it will. IKEA Singapore commonly uses a 150 x 200 cm queen format, which is narrower and longer than the common local 152 x 190 cm mattress. Confirm compatibility with the frame manufacturer.

Is a super single the same size at every Singapore retailer?

No. A common local super single is 107 x 190 cm, while IKEA Singapore commonly uses 120 x 200 cm. Check the dimensions in centimetres.

Should I measure the mattress or the bed frame for my room?

Use the complete external bed-frame dimensions for room planning. The mattress measurement is still needed to confirm compatibility, but it does not show how much floor and wall space the frame occupies.

Do storage beds need more room?

They may need more operating clearance even when the closed footprint is similar. Side drawers need room to extend, and gas-lift designs need usable space above and beside the bed.

How do I know whether a bed frame will fit through my door?

Ask for the package dimensions and how the frame is delivered. Compare the longest and widest packages with the lift, corridor turns, entrance and bedroom doorway.

Can I use the mattress size in a room-planning tool?

Use the frame's external dimensions whenever possible. Entering only the mattress size can make the plan look more spacious than the completed room.

Final check

Choose the mattress size first, but plan the bedroom around the frame. Two frames sold under the same size label can differ by several centimetres, and imported sizing can change the mattress opening itself.

Before ordering, confirm the internal mattress space, external footprint, storage clearance and package dimensions. Then test the footprint in the bedroom layout planner before committing the room to it.
